COVID-19 Update 6/1/2020

Virtual Workouts: Will continue through June at 1:15PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Tryouts:  There will be no official tryouts for the ice season.  Players will be placed in small group pods by coaches based upon known skill level and playing history.  Coaches will tweak pods as needed based on skill upon seeing new players.

Summer Ice Schedule: It is our hope to get back on the ice in July.  Stevenson and IHSA are waiting to hear from the Illinois Department of Public Health to approve the proposed return to play procedures.  Assuming we are given the OK to get back on the ice in July, we will start with small group pods of a maximum of 9 Skaters per Coach on each end of the ice.  There will be absolutely no contact, this will be a Skills Development only.

Below is the ice schedule, should we start in July.

Sunday - 7:40-9:50PM (Glacier, could be subject to change)

Monday - 7:30-9:40PM Hot Shots

Tuesday/Thursday: 2:00-3:45PM Gurnee

Friday: 6:00-9:00PM Gurnee

Safety Protocols: We understand the vigilance that must be taken as we all begin group activities again.  To limit the close proximity of players immediately after the Stay at Home order is released, we will have modified locker room procedures and bench procedures. We are in communication with the rinks on their protocol and will be implementing safety protocols of our own.  As we near that date, a detailed email with safety protocols given different scenarios (rinks, available locker room space, etc).  Whenever possible, we will be reserving additional locker rooms and party rooms to provide extra space. These protocols may include:

  • Coming to the rink pre-dressed in "bottoms" to allow for the rest of equipment to be put on in a lobby/hall way setting where there is more space between players
  • Staggered locker room dressing times assigned to allow for less than 10 players in the room at one time
  • Utilization of rink party rooms, in addition to locker rooms to allow for more distance between players
  • Wearing Masks inside of buildings prior to get on the ice
  • Wearing a "Bubble" while on the Ice
  • Temperature checks prior to all in-person activities

Fall/Winter Hockey Update:  AHAI has stated to the High School Committee that if Tier 1 and Tier 2 are playing hockey then High School will also be playing hockey.  While we don't know when that will start it is a very positive sign.  IHSA has also made a lot of positive statements recently about returning to play for fall sports, and they plan to announce their return to play guidelines shortly.  IHSA has also stated that certain sports may return to play earlier than others.  Hockey is considered a moderate risk sport; while it is more risky than gold, it is more like to be approve to return to play than Football or Basketball based on the information provided by the IHSA.  Most of IHSA statements have pertained to Football which hopefully will return in August.  The recommendation at the current moment is to start a season without fans.
