COVID-19 Policy

**Updated 2/10/21**

Stevenson High School Hockey is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment to all of our players, coaches and families. Of primary importance this year is our effort to mitigate the potential for the transmission of COVID-19 within our program and the community. Not only will this effort require full cooperation from our team members, but it will also require flexibility as the circumstances surrounding this virus are constantly changing. Ultimately, despite our best efforts, we cannot completely eliminate the risk that COVID-19 presents. If you have an underlying health condition or a specific health concern about participating in hockey this season, you should work with your health care provider to determine the best decision for your family.

We will continue with the COVID-19 screening questions and temperature checks prior to all Stevenson Hockey events. Please review the following updated policies regarding COVID-19 positive tests that will be in effect immediately for the 2020-2021 season and are aligned with IDPH (IDPH Safe Sport Guidelines) and Stevenson Athletics. In the event any of this information changes, we will notify all families via email and on our website.

Notification

If a player, coach or someone they live with tests positive for COVID-19, they must first notify Stevenson Hockey (covid.stevensonhockey@gmail.com) and Stevenson High School (covidclinic@d125.org). The Stevenson Hockey Covid Email will be confidentially monitored by the Hockey Director, Board President, and Team Manager. Stevenson Athletics Medical Staff will be notified and will provide direct guidance on protocols and requirements for returning to Stevenson Hockey events.

Quarantine Rules and Situations Requiring Quarantine

The following are general guidelines from IDPH for positive tests and quarantine for reference. Stevenson Athletics Medical Staff will contact you and provide specific instructions once notified of a positive test or exposure.

  • If a player or coach tests positive for COVID-19, that individual must quarantine themselves away from all Stevenson Hockey related events. Said player or coach may return when they have quarantined 10-days since onset of symptoms, have been fever free without medication for 24 hours and have received a negative COVID-19 test.

  • If anyone who resides in the same home as the player or coach tests positive for COVID-19, that player or coach must quarantine for 14 days after the last/most recent contact with the infectious individual. Should you wish to shorten the quarantine period AND you are not experiencing any symptoms, you may take a COVID-19 test between 5-7 days since last contact with the infected person. Should the result be negative, you must submit that to the two COVID-19 notification emails above to get approval to be released from quarantine on day 10.

  • In accordance with IDPH guidelines for High Risk Sports, if players are exposed to an opponent who tests positive with COVID-19 within 14 days of play, a mandatory 14 day quarantine is required (even if your player does not meet the CDC standard of 6' for more than 15 minutes). Should you wish to shorten the quarantine period AND you are not experiencing any symptoms, you may take a COVID-19 test between 5-7 days since the game with the infected person. Should the result be negative, you must submit that to the two COVID-19 notification emails above to get approval to be released from quarantine on day 10.

  • If a player or coach tests positive, all player and families will be notified. Team members then must follow the advice of their respective health care professionals to determine exposure risk and any quarantine requirements. If you were in close contact (within 6 feet of the infected person for more than 15 minutes), you must quarantine for 14-days and be tested for COVID-19 before returning.

Our ability to remain on the ice will be directly related to the efforts we put forth to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

We have spent a great deal of time working as a Board, consulting with our school, our families and other hockey programs to develop reasonable policies in this unique and constantly evolving environment. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to try to make this the best season possible for our Stevenson Hockey family.
