Fall/Winter Season
The season promises to provide our student-athletes with outstanding opportunities to compete in high school hockey. As one of only a few high school sponsored hockey programs in Illinois. We plan to field a Varsity Team and two Junior Varsity Teams (JV Gold and JV White). Hockey is a lettered sport at Stevenson High School and our teams play in the most competitive Illinois High School league in the state.
Ages
When
Tryouts are held the second week in August, typically a few days before school starts and runs through mid-March.
Where
The Stevenson Hockey club primarily skates out of Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion in Buffalo Grove. Most home games and practices will be held here.
Practices
On average both JV teams and Varsity practice two-three times per week during either 60 or 90 minute slots.
Games
JV Gold (JVG) and Varsity both play in the Scholastic Hockey League (SHL). JV White plays in the IHSHL North Central League. Between regular season league games, playoffs, exhibition games and tournaments Varsity averages 50-65 games and JV averages 40-50.
Tournaments
Varsity: Pre-Season Tournament (9/8-9/10), US High School Showcase (11/10-11/12), Stevenson Thanksgiving Tournament, Invitational Showcase -- Buffalo, NY (11/30-12/2)
JV Gold & JV White: Pre-Season Tournament, Stevenson Thanksgiving Tournament and Holiday Tournament.
Jerseys
If you're new to the program there is a one time new player package fee of $650 that includes a team bag, a set of game jerseys, shell, warm-ups, game socks, green helmet and green gloves. Goalie package is $350. A green helmet and gloves are required. In addition, if you are a selected for Varsity, a $150 Alternate Jersey package required.
SLUSH FUNDS
Each team has a slush/team fund that is required. Depending on the year the fee varies but is typically around $300 for JV and $700 for Varsity.
2023-2024
Skater Fees:
Season Fee: $5,550 (+$200 Tryout Fee)
New Player Package: $650 (includes warmups, jerseys, bag, helmet, gloves, socks, shell)
Goalie Fees:
Season Fee: $3,300 (+100 Tryout Fee)
New Player Package: $350 (includes jerseys, bag, warmups)
Slush Fund Fees:
Varsity: $700 & JV: $300
New Varsity Player Fee:
$150: Third alternate jersey
Payment Information: You will be charged the tryout fee immediately and the charge for the slush fund or new player package fees (if you choose to pay at registration). After rostering takes place, you will be charged for the deposit fee (or total fee) and then on the subsequent payment plan dates.
